They are the elite of the local high-school football scene.

The group of student athletes from Dracut, Chelmsford and Tewksbury were selected to compete at the regionals of the 7 on 7 passing tournament held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

The team, culled from the Dracut High School annual High School Player Development (HSPD) program, competed against 12 other teams on the New England Patriots' home turf and went undefeated to claim the regional crown and represent the Patriots for the 7 on 7 National Guard championship held in Tampa, Fla., from July 9 to July 12.

On the first day of the tournament in Tampa, the team won four games and lost one, earning the number-one seed overall in a field of 22 NFL sites. They were knocked out of competition in double elimination on the second day of the tournament but finished in the top 10.

The HSPD 7 on 7 Tournament started back in 2003 and has grown ever since.
